Our School

The City of Rockford Pipe Band maintains an active school of Piping and Drumming under the direction of Pipe Major Lucas Greenlee and Pipe Sergeant Bob Gough. Lucas studied in our school and Bob completed his early piping tuition in 1968 under Pipe Major Samuel Bogle, Montgomery County Highlanders in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Instruction in the school of Pipes and Drums is supplemented by world class instruction from Adrian Melvin, City of Chicago Pipe Band, and by participation in workshops and camps supported by the band. The school is structured along traditional lines, at the heart of which is a system of one to one or small group instruction. All band members participate in the school as learners and instructors.

The majority of the members of the award winning City of Rockford Pipe Band are "graduates" of our School, and continue to grow as pipers and drummers through practice, performance experience, and competition.

Our school has been a part of Rock Valley College's Continuing Education Program since 2006. Classes are held at the Bell School Center - 3300 Bell School Road
